At James Scott Associates, we are fortunate to work on a wide variety of projects, from heritage buildings and community facilities to residential developments. Every now and then, however, a project comes along that holds a special place in our hearts.
We were delighted to provide Contract Administration and Project Management services for the construction of a new purpose-built facility for a local hedgehog rescue organisation, a project that will make a real difference to the welfare of injured and vulnerable wildlife in our area.
Creating a Purpose-Built Wildlife Rescue Facility
The project saw the construction of a new purpose-built facility, at Hales Hall, Dry Bread Lane in Out Rawcliffe providing modern accommodation for both wildlife care and day-to-day operations. Designed to support the rescue’s vital work, the building offers dedicated treatment and recovery spaces, storage areas and welfare facilities for volunteers, helping ensure the charity can continue caring for hedgehogs for many years to come.
As Contract Administrator and Project Manager, our role was to guide the project from tender stage through to completion, coordinating the various parties involved and helping to ensure the facility was delivered successfully. It was a privilege to support a project that will have such a positive impact on local wildlife and the volunteers dedicated to its care.
Helping Protect a Much-Loved Species
Hedgehogs are one of Britain’s most recognisable and cherished wild animals, yet their numbers have declined significantly in recent decades due to habitat loss, road traffic incidents, and changing land use.
Facilities such as this play a vital role in rescuing, rehabilitating and ultimately returning hedgehogs to the wild. By helping create a dedicated environment for their care, this project contributes directly to the protection of local wildlife and the wider ecosystem.
For our team, it was incredibly rewarding to be involved in a project with such a positive environmental impact. Construction projects often leave a lasting legacy within communities, and this is a wonderful example of how the built environment can support biodiversity and wildlife conservation.
A Project We Were Proud to Support
While we always enjoy seeing projects successfully completed, this one brought an extra smile to our faces. Having the opportunity to meet some of the rescue’s residents along the way certainly made site visits more memorable than usual.
Seeing first-hand the dedication of the volunteers and the difference this new facility will make for injured hedgehogs was a privilege. We are proud to have played a part in delivering a building that will support their important work for years to come.
At James Scott Associates, we believe good construction projects are about more than bricks and mortar. They are about creating spaces that serve communities, preserve heritage, and, in this case, help protect the wildlife that shares our environment.
We would like to thank the contractors, AP Sharrocks, and the structural engineers, Bruce Scott Structural Design Ltd, for their professionalism and excellent work throughout the project.
We would also like to wish Matt and Clare at the rescue centre every success as they continue their invaluable work rescuing, rehabilitating and caring for one of Britain’s most iconic and much-loved species. It has been a privilege to play a part in creating a facility that will support their efforts for many years to come.
