At JSA we are passionate about historical architecture and we always feel privileged when we are appointed to work on heritage projects.
This month we carried out a Technical Due Diligence Survey on this Grade II listed building on Market Street/King Street in Lancaster.
Rebuilt in the 1930s, this three-storey, crescent shaped building sits prominently on the corner of the high street, on one of the busiest, one-way roads in Lancaster City Centre.
The sandstone ashlar construction was full of interesting features typical of the 1930s, such as these slim framed, single glazed windows with leaded glass sitting atop a feature stone.
While the front presents a refined sandstone face to the street, the rear reveals its working character – sturdy red brick and original cast iron gutters, a practical hallmark of 1930s construction
